An interview with Natasha Fishel, office manager.

Tell us a bit about your business, your locations, your team and the customers you serve.
We are a small family-owned business, and we provide residential and commercial heating and air conditioning as well as commercial refrigeration. In the last couple of years, we have grown the residential heating and air conditioning part of our business and have been focusing on taking care of the families in the Back Mountain and surrounding areas. We perform yearly maintenance, repair and install heating and air conditioning systems.

The mission of All Mechanical is to deliver exceptional customer service with honesty, integrity and compassion that is fostered by a faithful, family-oriented culture attracting and retaining the most courteous, professional, compassionate and well-trained employees in the industry.

With the support of my mother-in-law, Maggie, my father-in-law, Geoff Fishel, started All Mechanical Service in March of 1989 as the sole employee. The team has grown and worked from our office in Shavertown for the last 32 years, until our recent move to our new location at 3250 State Route 118 near the end of July.

We have a great team with all types of roles including service manager, office manager, salesperson, dispatcher, installer, apprentice, service technician and more.

My husband, Geoff II, has been a part of the business literally his whole life; the business opened in March of 1989 and he was born a month later in April. Geoff II spent summer vacations out in the shop working with the team or riding along with his dad on service calls. Learning from his dad and the other technicians, Geoff II gained invaluable hands-on experience and knowledge of the trade. He is now the service manager, and Geoff II and I plan to handle company operations after his parents retire.

What’s an interesting fact about your business most people don’t know?
All Mechanical has been in business for over 30 years! We hired a business coach a few years ago and he really helped us to define and refine our brand and outreach tactics, so now more than ever people know who we are. I’m sure (or at least I HOPE) people have started to recognize our bright, colorful vans around the community, and we also invested in this new location to allow for continued growth.

What do you think makes All Mechanical stand out?
We are a family and we want our customers to feel like they are a part of our family as well. Our team takes pride in their work and keeps up with changing technology. Our technicians are constantly learning and attending trainings throughout the year, and we even have a dedicated room in our new location for team training right here on-site.

How does being a member of the Back Mountain Chamber help your business?
We have not been very active in the Back Mountain Chamber in previous years but we are hoping to change that. We are looking forward to working with the Chamber and being able to reach out and help those in our community.

Is there something you specifically want people to know about All Mechanical?
All Mechanical has been open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. We have continued to serve the families of the Back Mountain while following new guidelines to make sure our customers and team members are safe.

Also, the shortage of HVAC professionals is growing, and we are always hiring technicians to keep up with the business demand. We recently welcomed Matt, a new college graduate, and another new member, Jacob, who started college this fall. We take hiring pretty seriously, and complete background checks and DISC (personality) profile assessments to make sure that a new team member fits in with the culture and values of the company. We work closely with Johnson College and Luzerne County Community College to find bright, talented team members.

Community and family are really important to us. Our team has been raising money for Autism Awareness for the past few years, and we try to do the Autism Awareness NEPA walk every year.

We asked our final question to Geoff, owner/president of All Mechanical.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business?
Know your numbers! Understand balance sheets, P&L statements and where your business is growing or shrinking. Being good at your craft is important, but understanding statistics and metrics is vital for long-term business growth and success.
